Quick write: Thursday 27th October 2016
Poor Hansel and Gretel just got dropped off in the deep dark forest with wolves snarling miles away from them AWOOOOO!!. They went to sleep on 2 tough logs as their beds. In the morning they walked and walked and found a glimpse of light within the horrid rotten trees . "What is that" said Hansel. "Well it might be a house made of candy" said Gretel. They peered from behind a tree hoping no one will see them. There was a white chocolate path with m&ms in it. It had little minty lollies laid on top of it. Little mint lollipops surrounded around the path. The house looked glorious and very delicious. It had licorice, m&ms with waffles as the roof. (Those waffles were waterproof). There were 2 broken trees with no leaves well instead of leaves their were once again mint lollies. The door was made from a slab of the Cadbury milk chocolate. There was a giant red gumball as the doors handle. They went up the sloppy path intimidatingly scared. They reached the top of the path and Hansel had the responsibility to do everything as he was the eldest one. He knocked on the door frightened as his heart races and gets butterflies in his stomach. In his surprise no one answered he was in relief. " Gretel look the door is open we might go inside and see if anyone is inside" said Hansel....
Narrator: What do you think will happen... Comment on this blog post and the one that I like the best will be the next part of this story...

Counting cogs
Counting Cogs Reflection
Yesterday and today we were working on an maths activity called "Counting cogs". In my group their was me, Prisha, Taanvi and Charlaye. My group role was the recorder/reporter role. So the recorder/reporter had to record the groups thinking and had to report to the learning coach about what they are doing or a strategy or something they had figured out. Prisha was the questioner/includer, Taanvi was the resource monitor and Charlaye was the facilitator. The problem that we had to solve was to... Colour in 1 tooth of the cog and see if every gap in the 1 tooth coloured cog can go through each gap of the other cogs. We found that 5 and 7 didn't work because it is times to a odd number. The number's 6 and 8 did work because they times to a even number. So we found that even and odds mattered in this problem.

Reflection- Week 3
Reflection- Week 3
😎
Pretty cool
Yesterday for iExperience we did something called mini Olympics. Now you might be wondering what is mini olympics..... well mini olympics is like an indoor olympics and it's pretty cool!! I did only 2 activities because their is supposed to be 3 activities but we couldn't do one of them because we were short on one learning and that was pretty sad. So anyways the activities I did was extreme mini golf and count crunch... I think thats what those activities were called.
So what:
What I got out of the mini golf was how to measure and how to shoot long distances. What I got out from the count crunch was that I had to know my numbers from 1 to 100 and it is kind of like a tongue twister because we were getting timed.
Now what:
My next steps are to try and do numbers maybe up to to 200 and time myself. I could also try other mini olympic games and or maybe even make up my own game.
😎

Reflection
So today for P.E we tried out something different from usual. It was called a beep test. So what a beep test is.... a shuttle run. So we had to use a speaker to project the person telling us what level we finished at and the beep. So every time the beep beeped it means we have to start running so the levels I finished was level 1-3. I know it's pretty good and bad but I tried my best and I did what I could do. I think their were roughly 20 levels or maybe more less or more.
We did this because we were practising for the cross country we were going to have this term.
My next steps are to try and do more than I did today and do more than 5 levels.
- If you might be wondering who won it was...... Zavier rocking it with an 8.4. He was the last one running. 2nd came Rohullah and 3rd came Dayne and Rahi.

Science roadshow
Science Roadshow
Last week on Tuesday we went to the science roadshow. When we went inside it was full with lots of science experiments. My favourite one was the one with a little sphere ball that you can roll and then next to them their are some scents of fruits or juice and flowers such as coconut, orange juice, daisies, sunflowers and others. So we had to roll our finger on the ball and on the ball was the scent and we had to try and guess what scent it was and their was lots of buttons with the fruit or juice and we had to press the button and if it was correct it would flash with a green light and if it was incorrect it would show you the answer and the answer you picked will be the one that is red. So when we all sat down at the beginning we were learning about sound. As you may know their is high pitch of sound which is kind of squeaky and a low pitch sound is like the sound of a truck.

Tikanga Moari
Tikanga Maori
This week we were focusing on Tikanga Maori. Tikanga Maori mean Maori culture. So that means we were learning about Maori culture. To be honest it was really fun. We learnt the song that all of you maybe familiar with is the song Aotearoa by Stan Walker. It was my first time listening to that song but I got used to it really quick. It's stuck in my head!!. We looked at the video and the lyrics of the video. What made it tricky for me was all of those words that are seriously like tongue twisters. After practising it a several times we started making Poi's and Rakau sticks. I started of with making Rakau sticks and what I needed was 2 or 3 or more magazines and some tape

Week 5 reflection
Reflection-Week 5
😀
Super happy
On Monday I went to my swimming lessons with the whole group 4. We learnt how to use a life-jacket. So their were some challenges for us. Their were challenges like to fall backwards into the water, to drop like a pencil into the water and to do the challenges together.
I felt really excited to be learning how to use a life-jacket. We shared some different ideas of when we could use a life- jacket. So some of our ideas were to use them when you are going fishing or going to have a boat ride because you never know if the boat might drown. They could be use when your in the airplane.
My next step is to learn how I could improve my swimming skills and try and swim in deep water with a life-jacket on.

My reflection about the temple
💚
Loved it!
I chose this emoji because today I went to the Fo Guang Shan temple. I was so excited because I got to be the group 4's learner helper with Mervlyn. I learnt lots over their. We learnt about the 3 G and 4 G. The 3 G is say good words, do good deeds and think good thoughts. The 4 G is giving others so they were giving others confidence, giving others joy, giving others convenience and giving others hope. We got little tattoos with a little buddha sitting on a lotus flower and on the top it has either the 3 G or the 4 G symbol. We also learnt about the story of the buddha. He became a really important person because he did all those 3 G's and 4 G's and teaching younger and older people about it. At the temple we made little origami lotus flowers. So I found out about the story of the buddha when we were watching a movie. His story was very interesting.
My next step is to learn about the buddha more and find more about his life.

Blog reflection for term 2- 1st
Blog reflection- 1
What- What happened?: Today I went swimming with a group of people. We went to the Otara swimming pool. This was our first swimming lesson, their's going to be swimming lessons every Monday. So I went to swimming after iBreak 1 and we went in a swimming bus which takes us there. So today we had the challenge to complete some tasks. So we had to blow big bubbles, float on the surface of the water like a starfish, blow bubbles and swim to where the coach tells us to.
So what- what was the purpose of it?:
The purpose for this was that we could get better at swimming and survive when we are far away from land. The main reason is to not drown.
Now, what- What do you want to do next?-
My next step is to do all those moves by the end of the swimming lessons.

End of term 1 Reflection- 2
2nd End Of Term Reflection
What happened?
I want to reflect on my other iExplore on water pollution. Water pollution was a very interesting topic for me because I really love animals and seeing them die is very heartbreaking. That is not good because some animals such as dolphins they keep us company in some places by their tricks. Water pollution happens by human activities like in place like India and China because they don't have that much money to get a shower. So some people shower in the water, they wash their clothes and another cause is those people in factories because they clean some things and then all the dirty water go through some BIG! pipes. Those pipes lead to the ocean. Also something else last time Ms Jensen was teaching about rubbish and I learnt that some people are so selfish that they can't throw their rubbish in the rubbish bin and then they just throw it on the drains. When it rains all the water pushes the rubbish and forcing it to go to those manholes which are those circular things that are found often on roads and streets. The rubbish from homes and drains all meet over their and they go through some big pipes and they lead to beaches and when it's windy the rubbish will get pushed over to the water. The other reason is that when it rains again the water that comes through those pipes the water will push the rubbish to go to sea. Well you might wonder water won't just lead rubbish to sea well it does but when the water starts to dissolve into the sand people just kick the rubbish around.
What was the purpose?
The purpose for this was because 2 things that some of the things that I talked about was our iExperience so that inspired me to make a iExplore about water pollution.
THANK YOU!!

Reflection- iExplore presentation
I want to reflect on my iExplore I did today and it was about Dolphins. It was very fun because I had a presentation, poster with facts and a kahoot. Lots of people liked my kahoot which was very good for all the hard work it took me. Phewwww!!. Something I learnt was that I found was interesting was that when Dolphins are born they are born with a small amount of hair. That was weird and funny but kind of cool. On some videos I watched about that they advertised it to everyone by popping out a picture of a Dolphins with a lot of hair on it and it makes laugh well maybe a little bit. So I made my kahoot, poster and presentation just in 2 weeks now that's pretty insane right. And the kahoot was the hardest because me and Justin v had to make the question challenging for the people playing because they were seniors we can't give them a bunch of questions which are easy because they can all win. So the team that won was mian & Joshua so congratulations to them.
What's the purpose? The purpose for this was because this was something that really interested me.
My next step is to try and maybe don't even make a presentation just a kahoot and a poster. Also try and do something else rather than sea animals.

Week 10 reflection
Week 10 Reflection
Something I wanted to share about is that I presented my learning on Health & Hygiene in space. So when I was researching there were some unusual things that astronauts have to do to keep safe while showering and doing dishes & laundry.
The purpose of this was that so we can learn about space and learn the difficult in space and the easy in space.
My next step is to try and do more research and find out more about their spacecraft also look for where the sink is and the shower is because there are lots of buttons, wires and maybe rooms we might think are something else.

Week 9 Reflection
My Reflection
Yesterday we were learning about and also on Wednesday. We were learning about survival in space. So we first looked at a presentation with some slides saying about what we know about survival in space using our prior knowledge. Some ideas were that you wouldn't we able to do daily routines properly such as showering and also brushing your teeth because in space you will be floating around because their's no gravity so we won't be able to walk.
We did survival in space because we were finished with our other iExperience with making our wrapper free lunchboxes.
My next step is to try and do some more research on a topic with space such as, How do astronauts eat their food? or something like that.

My Reflection-Week 7
So on Tuesday we did p.e and sports. So first went the Mexico hapu group for p.e and then the Italy group went. I am in the Italy hapu group so we first did visual arts and then sports. So today for visual arts we were finishing our puzzle piece. So now I was starting to think of what to write on my puzzle. So when time was up we had to go to p.e. So for p.e we played some baseball. So the Italy group got split into 2 groups. So the team I was in got 7 points for how much people made it around the area we had to run around which we call a homebase and the other team scored 8. Pretty impressive!!.
We played this so we can get better at our throwing, catching, running and batting skill. That is lots of activities everyone can get better at it. So I think the ones that I need to get better at or practice is my running, throwing and batting skills.
My next steps are to try and learn some WOW!! words and practice my skills at home for fitness.

My Reflection- Week 6
Reflection
What?
Today we did quick write at iDevelop time. So this time our quick write was kind of different. There was a mix to it so their was show don't tell and what is looks like, feels like, sounds like and smells like. There was 2 topics of winter and summer and I did the winter with looks like and sounds like.
So What?
Because we can get better and add some descriptive words to our writing and make it more fun to listen to.
Now What?
My next step is to try and write more in 5 minutes and maybe do some more writing with the mix of show don't tell and 4 of the 5 senses.

My reflection- Week 6
My Reflection
Today I was learning about more catching and throwing. We played scatter-ball and it was really fun.
What happened was that I tried my best and got maybe 3 or 4 or 5 more points for my team and it made it up to 54.
My next step is to try and practise more throwing and catching as well as running so next time I would like to try and get maybe 10 or 6 or 7.

Quick Write and self checking and buddy checking
Quick write and self checking and buddy checking
This week we were doing lots of quick write and also including self checking and buddy checking. So quick write is basically like you have to write on a topic in just 5 minutes. Also self checking means to like correct your peice of writing on punctuation, words spelling and all those stuff and buddy checking I don't really know about because we are trying to learn how to buddy check. So we were learning about those two this week. So I managed to write and it was really fun. So on Monday to today we wrote some quick write stories. Some of the topics had story starters with them or you had to make it up. So I was really proud of my writing because today, on Wednesday and on Thursday I think I nearly wrote maybe a whole page or a whole page. It was also really frustrating when the 5 minutes was over or I had to go to my pat test because once you start writing you don't feel like stopping especially when it's time to self ch ck and buddy check. My next step on quick writing is to try and add more descriptive language to my writing and maybe increase the punctuation into my writing.
My reflection- week 4
My reflection
Today I was learning about self-checking and buddy-checking in LH3. I was proud with my work and amount of writing I did in just 5 mins. I got my work checked with my group so we did a group-check.
I enjoyed writing my story because we had to be fast and I really liked it.
My next learning step is to try and write more than that in 5 mins

Reflection about iDevelop- maths- week 3
Reflection
I was being curious at iDevelop- maths because we had our workshop and we were looking at some strategies to use to solve questions. I used strategies with a number line, also having your question such as 20+20 and adding the first numbers of each number and adding it. So I mean we would do 2+2 which is 4 and then 0+0 is 0 and then put the 4 and 0 together and then you get 40. Those were the strategies I used for maths.
Next step:
My next step is to try and use some other strategies in maths.

Reflection- week 2

Something I done over the week was my iExplore on deaf culture and I was exploring hearing aids because that's the topic I wanted to do.
The purpose is that the topic was about deaf culture so that's why I chose to do this.
Something I got out of the learning is the significance of hearing aids.
My next step is to create a presentation and present it to everyone.
I want to explore more about hearing aids and other stuff about them.

My Reflection- Thursday
Something I learnt about was about being a travel wise school and how to travel somewhere without using a car. I am curious on maybe making an iExplore on being travel wise. I have made connections with my iRead book to literacy today on keywords.
Next time I would like to do some more research on how to be travel wise.
